Comparison hair removal methods

temporary and permanent

“Laser hair removal” has established itself as a common term. Regardless of the technique used, all procedures work with light. The process of permanent hair removal* using light is therefore also called photoepilation. Permanent hair removal is possible with any technique at our institute in Mannheim.

Temporary hair removal methods – shavers, epilators and co.

The most common hair removal method is depilation. By this term is understood to mean that each individual hair is cut at the same height of the skin. The part below the skin as well as the hair root remain there. The hair continues to grow steadily, so that it very quickly comes to the known and annoying problem of stubble formation.

Shaving

The most famous device, which is used here is the razor. Here again it is necessary to distinguish between different shavers. There are disposable or gel shavers, which are often combined with shaving foam. The shaving foam makes the skin soft and supple and reduces the risk of cuts. Nevertheless, most users often cut themselves, which on the one hand can be very painful and on the other hand can lead to inflammation. Cuts occur mainly in hard-to-reach or uneven areas. Many take on this daily procedure with the result that hair regrow and form stubble after a short time.

Hair removal creme

Sometimes depilatory creams are also used. These remove hair on a chemical basis. But even here no permanent result is achieved, but can score points compared to the classic shaving with a duration of about 14 days until the hair regrowth. Nevertheless, the hair is chemically dissolved, which leaves an effect on the human organism open.

Epilation, waxing or sugaring

Compared to depilation, you can achieve longer lasting effects with an epilation. In this form of hair removal, the entire hair including its root is torn out of the skin. Here, of course, the body takes longer to form a new hair at all, so this method can bring up to 4 weeks of hair-free time. The techniques often used in this context are epilator or waxing or sugaring. The problem with all these methods is the considerable pain that can be caused by the application of each of these techniques.

Waxing

A well-known variant of hair removal is also waxing. Here, too, there are different options, i. e. both cold and warm.

Warm wax

The method presented here is hot wax. This must first be heated. Particularly at the temperature you have to be careful, because too cool the wax does not melt properly and too hot can lead to burns and skin irritation. Once the wax has reached the right temperature, it is applied to the area to be depilated using a spatula and immediately afterwards covered with a paper strip. The really painful process is only now to follow. Because the wax hardens and connects the hair to the paper strip. A strong jerk against the direction of hair growth usually leads to a short but intense burning, because the glued hairs are torn out together with their root. And then the process starts all over again.

Cold wax

In contrast to warm wax, you save on heating the wax here, which at least saves a lot of time. Nevertheless, this process does not make it less painful, because the problem remains the same, the hair is torn out at the root. Depending on the applied body region, this is sometimes more painful and sometimes less painful.

Although the method lasts longer (about 4 weeks), it is difficult to compensate for the strain and unpleasant feeling of hair removal with warm wax.

Brasilian Waxing

This method does not constitute a specific process in itself. Here too, wax, especially hot wax, is used. With Brazilian waxing, the hair in the intimate area is removed. The method comes from Brazil, which explains the name of the method.

The wax is applied to the areas in the intimate area where hair grows. After curing the hot wax, it is then pulled off jerkily. The result is a smooth skin in the intimate area for about 4 weeks. The pain during waxing itself cannot be underestimated in this sensitive area.

Permanent* hair removal with light

Top effectiveness with XENOgel® Technology

Through the targeted heating of the hair roots, the protein contained in them is denatured and the cell is deprived of its ability to regenerate, which leads to the desired result – permanent hair removal* – The XENOgel® Technology is based on advanced photoepilation technology in combination with a crystal gel. The system heats up the skin or hair roots slowly and continuously. The maximum temperature reached is a pleasant 45° Celsius. The crystal gel is used to optimize the light and thus increase the effectiveness of each session. The light is now able to reach the hair roots even better. However, it contributes to a faster cooling of the skin after the treatment as well, since the gel is very heat conductive. This results in less skin irritation and a pleasant feeling on the skin.

IPL

IPL devices work with very short successive light pulses of 2 – 300 milliseconds. The energy released in this process is 12 – 120 joules per cm². This energy is transmitted to the hair root via the hair and exclusively via the body’s own pigment melanin. Due to this, temperatures of 65 – 72° Celsius are generated at the hair root. Since other cells also have this specific dye, they absorb the high energy peaks as well. This can lead to swelling in the treated area. Treatment with this technique is possible, but we recommend the XENOgel Technology.

SHR

This is not the case with the SHR technique. Here the technology uses the path via the melanin only up to 50% and acts through the skin on the stem cells of the hair as well. These in turn are responsible for the new production of hair. The IPL method described above uses the path to the stem cell only via melanin. As the SHR technology works through melanin as well as through the skin, it is possible to work with lower energy, which ultimately leads to a better skin tolerance and significantly lower risk of burns. Due to the lower force and better distribution of heat, SHR technology is painless, unlike the IPL procedure.
